Kazakhstani sports functionary Gadzhi Gadzhiev, the husband of the head of the Tele-Radio Complex of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Raushan Kazhibayeva, turned out to be closely connected with Russia.

As the media found out, he has a Russian passport, a large family and business partners live in Dagestan who conduct business in the Russian Federation. His own brother works in the Federal Tax Service, and a long-time friend runs restaurants and a network of electronics stores in Makhachkala.

Kazakhstani journalists have long called Gadzhiev the “overseer of Khorgos” and link him to the smuggling of Chinese goods through Kazakhstan to Russia, and not only household products, but also components for the Russian military-industrial complex. It is believed that the flow is established through road and rail transport. The containers are then sent to the port of Aktau, and from there they are loaded onto ships that go to Russia.

Local investigators even approximately calculated the volume of shadow supplies from China that may be in question — they compared the data of the two countries on trade turnover and found a “hole” of 13.8 billion dollars there: according to Kazakhstani customs, the trade turnover for 2024 amounted to 30 billion dollars, and according to Beijing — 43.8 billion. That is, the goods left China, but for some reason formally did not enter Kazakhstan.

The accusations against Gadzhiev of overseeing shadow customs flows were reinforced by Kazakhstani businessman Adlet Musin — he publicly said that Gadzhiev showed him correspondence with the first deputy head of the National Security Committee Altynbayev Ali with customs reporting: how many trucks passed through the Chinese border, what goods, and so on. According to him, Gadzhiev ordered him not to interfere with customs, otherwise he promised to create problems for him with the law enforcement agencies.

Despite the fact that Gadzhiev is a well-known public figure, the head of the Weightlifting Federation of Kazakhstan, the Republican Federation, a member of the Executive Committee of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan, there are too many blank spots in his biography. As the media found out, Gadzhi Gadzhiev is a native of the Dagestan ASSR, he was born in Buynaksk and in 2003 even received a Russian passport.

True, he prefers to use Kazakhstan documents when traveling around the Russian Federation. In 2022 alone, Gadzhiev visited Russia at least three times, traveling both by air and by Lexus car. Before the conflict, Gadzhiev also regularly came to Russia and took his children to Moscow.

A phone number of the Kazakhstani RPO “Federation NOMAD MMA”, of which Gadzhi Gadzhiev was the head, has been preserved online. His Facebook account was registered to the same number. This number, judging by the leaks, has been used for many years to buy air tickets for people who fly between the cities of Kazakhstan and Russia — in particular, Astana, Makhachkala and Moscow. For example, in 2022 tickets from Kazakhstan to Moscow were purchased for Gadzhi Gadzhiev himself, and in 2023 tickets from Almaty to Makhachkala and from Moscow to Makhachkala were bought for a certain Gadzhiali Gadzhialiyev.

This is a Dagestani businessman, a former deputy of the People’s Assembly of the Republic of Dagestan from “A Just Russia”, the former owner of LLC “Impulse-21”, and now an individual entrepreneur and the owner of a restaurant business in Makhachkala. Gadzhialiyev has been engaged in the sale of audio and video equipment and household electrical appliances in his “Impulse” store since the 1990s, and since 2022 as an individual entrepreneur he switched to wholesale supplies of electronics. Now the store has been rewritten to his relative Bariyat Gadzhialiyeva — this is a rather large company, it has its own website and delivery to any region of Russia.

A “golden” business, especially when your long-time acquaintance has a customs checkpoint on the border with China under control. If the suspicions of Kazakhstani journalists are correct, then under the guise of household electronics from China, dual-use goods for the Russian military-industrial complex may also be supplied along this route.
